WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?

Accreditation is a status granted to an institution that meets or exceeds the stated criteria of an accreditor recognized by the Department of Education (USDE). The purposes of accreditation are to assess and enhance the educational quality of an institution, to assure consistency in institutional operations, to promote institutional improvement, and to provide for public accountability.

HOW CAN I TELL IF A SCHOOL IS ACCREDITED?

A list of ACISC™-accredited institutions may be found by clicking here. If the institution is not accredited by ACISC™, visit the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs to find out if it is accredited by another agency.

MAY I RECEIVE A COPY OF MY TRANSCRIPTS?

ACISC™ does not hold any student records. Please contact your school directly. If a school is closed, you will need to contact the higher education agency of in the state where the operated for assistance. If you are unable to find the state information.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT A SCHOOL?

ACISC™ has established criteria for reviewing and resolving complaints. Complaints will be accepted by the Council from individuals or groups, including students, staff, faculty, members of the general public, governmental agencies, and other institutions or organizations. The Council reviews complaints and acknowledges its responsibility to provide both the complainant and the institution with a reasonable and impartial review.

Determination of Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration for accreditation, an institution or entity must satisfy ACISC™ requirements. Use the Self-Assessment Checklist to determine your institution's eligibility.

Initial Resource Visit

Initial Resource Visit

Following the acceptance of the initial application materials, including the assessment of the institution’s financial stability, an ACISC™ staff member will conduct an Initial Resource Visit. T

Application and Self-Study

Application and Self-Study

The self-study is the most important part of the process of accreditation and must be considered a major effort of the institution, one requiring time and careful planning. The self-study provides the institution with the opportunity to engage in a comprehensive analysis of all aspects of its operation.

Evaluation Site Visit

Evaluation Site Visit

When an institution has submitted a satisfactory self-study and other required documentation, the ACICS President will appoint a team to visit and evaluate the institution. The institution is notified of the composition of the visiting team and may request that team members be replaced for cause.

Team Report and Response

Team Report and Response

The evaluation team prepares a written report that covers each area reviewed at the institution and includes other information pertinent to an accurate evaluation. The report subsequently is sent by the team chair to ACICS, and from there to the institution for its review and response.

Importance of Accreditation

One of the first steps any prospective student should take before enrolling in a college or university, is to verify whether or not the school is accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. ACISC™ is a national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?

CODE OF ETHICS

The purpose of the ACISC™ Code of Ethics is to describe the moral principles upon which CIS members are expected to base their conduct and professional practice.

All ACISC™ members are expected to:

  • Fulfill the promises stated in their guiding statements, policies, contracts and promotional materials.
  • Strive for excellence.
  • Nurture a culture of care in which the education, safety and well-being of students and others are paramount.
  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Respect the dignity and equality of all individuals, groups and cultures.
  • Promote global citizenship.
    School members also meet all ACISC™ core Membership Standards.

Higher education members also follow the Guiding Principles for Higher Education Institutions.
